The clergy, on Monday, in conjunction with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) called a presser to castigate IEBC’s decision to clear candidates who had integrity issues. The EACC had forwarded 241 names of candidates who were unfit to run.
“We presented some names to IEBC on suitability of these people for them to vie for any elective post. We hear that 5 have been barred, the rest have been cleared.” EACC’s CEO, Twalib Mbarak said.
“IEBC responded that it is none of our business to do the clearing and vetting of the candidates.” He continued.
Some of the issues they faced also included murder, corruption and fake academic certificates.
“Here in this country, we have people with fake papers and they have the guts to come and abuse institutions. Chest thumping saying they have degrees. How can you have a degree yet you don’t know your classmate?
“You now have crooks that are now aggressive fighting the systems, calling the CEO of EACC saying ‘wewe unanimaliza’.” Mbarak said.
The clergy weighed in on the issues raised and made it their duty to enlighten the public about the dangers of electing such individuals.
“Listen to the speeches of the politicians and their manifestos. But it is important to find out what the character of the individual is.” Bishop Mark Kariuki stated.
“I urge all Kenyans to vote out all candidates who have corruption tags as a means of securing good governance post 9th of August, 2022.” Rev. Joseph Mutie added.
