President William Ruto has nominated Noordin Haji as the next Director General of the National Intelligence Service.

If considered by Parliament, Mr Haji will succeed Philip Kameru who is due for retirement. This will see the return of Mr. Haji to his earlier job as spy, only this time as intelligence boss.

Mr Kameru has been at the helm of the intelligence agency since September 2014.

President Ruto described his performance at NIS as outstanding, having helped the country confront terrorism, transnational crimes and “major threats to our security”.

The President also made reshuffles in some ministries that saw termination of Health Principal Secretary, Josephine Mburu and disbandment of Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) board, as a result of the mosquito nets scandal that rocked the institution.

Her colleague, Mr. Peter Tum was shifted to the Ministry of Sports and PS Jonathan Mueke moved to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, replacing PS Harry Kimutai who was moved  to the state department for medical services.

Other reshuffles include moving of Esther Ngero form the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary where she oversaw performance and management, to the State Department of Correctional Services under the Ministry of Interior. Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, in a dispatch said that in her place, the President had nominated Faith Njeri Harrison for appointment to facilitate transition in the vacancy that has arisen within the ranks of Principal Secretaries.

PS Gitonga Mugambi was moved to the Ministry of Environment under the State Department for Forestry, following the reassignment of PS Ephantus Kimani, who has been moved to the Ministry of Water as the Irrigation PS replacing Gitonga.

PS Mary Muthoni in-charge of correctional services in the Ministry of Interior was moved to the Ministry of Health in-charge of Public Health and Professional Standards.
