MANY LOSE TWITTER BADGES AFTER MUSK APRIL 20 DEADLINE

Renowned media personalities, media houses and celebrities woke to shock after their verification badges were removed by social media giant, Twitter. This comes after the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, made good his threat to unverify all accounts not subscribed to Twitter Blue, a subscription service, except for verified business accounts, government official and organization accounts.

Musk, in his defense, said Twitter would be charging $8 a month or $84 annually to get rid of bots in the service.

Larry Madowo, a CNN journalist, took to the platform posting “My ‘legacy verified’ checkmark is gone. Still not paying. This was fun.”

Some of the local media houses affected include Citizen TV, which has already attracted pseudo accounts; KTN News, and KBC.

International media houses were not left either. CNN, BBC Africa, BBC News (World), France 24 English were some of the accounts who kissed their blue badges good bye.

Al Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Brazil’s Ronaldinho, Nicki Minaj were some of the international personalities not spared either.
