Police are investigating a case where a woman who had been missing since June, 2017 was found in a well in Rafiki Village, Saboti Sub-County, Trans Nzoia County. Villagers well known to the woman positively identified her from her dressing amidst the shocking discovery.
“The woman was a neighbor who went missing in June, 2017 one evening and we were told she had gone to visit her family in West Pokot County. We assumed she would go and come back later. We waited for days and became unsettled and raised concerns why she had not come back. Rumours started spreading that she had gone missing. Her son and sister informed us of the visit to West Pokot.” Elizabeth Omusi, a neighbor to the deceased told the media.
When asked about any health concerns, Ms Omusi said the well was put out of order for a year and a half since the incident and when it was later re-opened, the water was too dirty and stuffy for any use. The locals opted to clean the well by pouring out the dirty water until the water became clear. They used it for washing dishes and other household chores except for cooking until the locals again decided that they could use it for cooking and drinking despite being unaware of the missing woman being in the well. According to the locals, more than 700 people use the well for domestic use.
“It was about 2 PM when I was cleaning the well when I encountered the dead body. I was terrified and cannot explain how I sprung out of the well. I found myself out. I saw bones of the victim but couldn’t identify if they were from a leg or arm but what I was sure about was the ribcage. The victim was dressed in a yellow outfit with spots on it.” The diver who cleaned the well stated.
The family suspects foul play and asks the police to get to the bottom of the matter and bring the culprits to book.
